Past Due Property Tax Assistance

Michigan's Hardest Hit Fund (HHF) Program Step Forward Michigan is re-opening May 1, 2016.

The State of Michigan has received additional funding from the U.S. Department of Treasury.

Michigan residents who are delinquent on their mortgage or property taxes should be encouraged to apply if,

  • They own and live in their home
  • Have less than $10,000.00 in their bank accounts
  • Have enough income to pay future mortgage payments and property taxes
  • Had a qualifying event that caused the delinquency, such as; Unemployment, Underemployment, Death, Medical Event, or Divorce

Over 29,000 Michigan Home owners have received HHF assistance to stay in their homes.

The Michigan Homeowners Assistance Nonprofit Housing Corporation (MHA), operating under the name Step Forward Michigan, was created in 2010 by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) to oversee the distribution of the Hardest Hit Funds in Michigan.
