1.         Meeting called to order at 9:05 a.m.

2.         Bid Openings

 

The Committee Reviewed the quotes for the Barnes Park Electrification Project:

Alpine Electric Corporation has the lowest price and according to Jason VanBrocklin, Engineer, is a good company.

 

Motion by Jack White, supported by Joseph Allen, to recommend the Board of Commissioners accept the bid of $25,439 (attached) from Alpine Electric Corporation to provide the service of campsite electrification.  Motion carried – unanimous.

3.         Parks Update

 

Eileen Wallick, Parks Manager, updated the Committee regarding the activities at Barnes Park (attachment).

 

Ms. Wallick asked the commission to approve the changing of the four solenoid valves in the old bathhouse due to them being 24 years old and three of the four leaking after every use.  The cost would be $160 per valve.                                          

 

Motion by Joseph Allen, supported by Jack White, to change the three of the four leaking valves at a cost of $160.00 per valve.  Motion carried – unanimous.

4.         Grass River Natural Area (GRNA) Update

 

Mark Randolph, Director of the GRNA, gave the Committee an update on activities at the GNRA (attachment).

5.         Parks and Recreation Update

 

Jerry Basch gave the committee an update on the Parks and Recreation Commission activities.

 

Mr. Basch informed the Committee that the Parks and Recreation Database Search webpage has had 342 “hits” with no promotion.  Mr. Basch also stated that this could be a good tool to help the townships as well as the villages by putting a link to this webpage on their website to help attract visitors. 

 

Mr. Basch informed the Committee that a Parks and Recreation Subcommittee has been looking for boat launch sites on Lake Michigan and they had narrowed their search down to possibly two (Barnes Park and Torch Bay Nature Preserve).

6.         Communications

 

Their was a verbal communication between Peter Garwood and a customer of Barnes Park stating his unpleasant experience while camping at the Park.  Ms. Wallick explained the situation and the Committee found that no further action needed to be taken.
