Members Present:

 

CLAF Committee: Gene Dawson, Bernie Blackmore and Joe Allen

Parks Committee: Gene Dawson, Mike Crawford, and Joe Allen

Parks and Recreation: Jerry Dobrzelewski, Stan Moore, Al Pecar, Mike Meriwether, Russ Blasdell, Mike Crawford, and Linda Gallagher.

1.         Meeting called to order at 9:30 a.m. 

2.         Public Comment

 

Russ Blasdell spoke on how the Bellaire Conservation Club needs help, during the 2009 Petoskey Stone Festival, with purchasing the fish and recruiting volunteers. 

 

3.         Parks and Recreation Update

 

Stan informed the Committee’s that the budget was approved to increase the Parks Forum from $500 to $1,000 for 2009.

 

Joe Meyers passed out a memo from the Coordinator/Planner’s Office giving the Board some options for a date for the forums. The Board decided to go with April 6, 2009 and August 24, 2009.

 

4.         Grass River Update

 

Mark Randolph gave the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board an update on the past 5 years and all they have accomplished.

 

Discussion ensued over a park on Torch Lake because the Department of Natural Resources has deemed it needed.

 

5.         Forestry Update/County Property Discussion

 

Mike Meriwether gave an update on the County Properties that he manages.  He also spoke on the unique issues with some of the county proprieties.  In addition, Mr. Meriwether indicated that the county currently has 4881 acres of property; he manages about 2800 acres of that.

 

Discussion took place on the use of county properties and that each property holds its individual set of issues.

 

Jerry Dobrzelewski inquired about utilizing the Chain of Lakes for a race similar to that of the  Au Sable River.
