1.         Meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m.

 

2.         Public Comment

None.

3.         Probate and Family Court

Bill Hefferan, Court Administrator joined the meeting. Mr. Hefferan distributed and reviewed with the Committee, the year end Child Care Fund report for the fiscal year 2006-2007. The Committee and Mr. Hefferan discussed the Child Support Enforcement dollar cuts and the privatization of foster care proposed by the legislature.

 

4.         Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility (MBMCF) & Meadowview Apartments

Marna Robertson, Director and David Schultz, Finance Officer joined the meeting.  Ms. Robertson and Mr. Schultz presented and reviewed a report / agenda for the medical care facility.

 

The Committee also reviewed the monthly and year to date budget for Meadowview
Apartments, submitted by Ms. Robertson and Mr. Schultz.  Ms. Robertson, Mr. Schultz and the Committee discussed future plans for both MBMCF and the Meadowview Apartments.  A presentation will be given to the Board of Commissioners by Ms. Robertson and Mr. Schultz sometime around the end of 2007 and the beginning of 2008.

 

5.         Commission on Aging (COA)

Carol Mitchell, Director of the COA joined the meeting. Ms. Mitchell requested the
Committee recommend the Board of Commissioners approve that COA apply for a grant
from the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa Chippewa Indians, to help pay for meals served to
the Native American population in Antrim County.  Ms. Mitchell explained that the tribe had previously reimbursed the COA for any meals served to tribal members. However, they are now requesting the COA put in a grant request from the 2% slot machine funds. The tribe is obligated, through an arrangement with the state, to provide grants to the local units of government from 2% slot machine revenues.  Ms. Mitchell requested permission to request a grant for $2,500.

 

Motion by Bernie Blackmore, Supported by Laura Stanek to recommend the Board of Commissioners approve the Commission on Aging submit an application to the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians for serving meals to the Native American population in Antrim County ($2,500). Motion Carried – Unanimous.

         

            Bernie Blackmore left the meeting at 10:25 a.m.

 

            The Committee continued to discuss COA funding issues with Ms. Mitchell.

 

6.         Various Matters
