**Antrim County Seeks Input**

Antrim County is updating its Community Park and Recreation Plan.  The goal of the plan is to: inventory existing facilities and resources, identify community recreation and open space needs, and set a 5-year plan of action for these spaces. Anyone interested in providing input into the future of Antrim County’s Park and Recreation Plan should take this survey before July 31, 2020.

A comprehensive plan derived from the input of its citizens will ensure that Antrim County, which boasts nearly 20,500 acres of freshwater lakes and rivers and 280 square miles of public and private forests, continues to be a destination sought for its abundance of year-round recreational activities. Using guidelines set forth by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, this plan will have many potential benefits, including better environmental protection, efficiency in providing park and recreation opportunities, increased funding sources, greater potential for tapping into new, creative ways of accomplishing recreation goals, and enhancing public support for parks.  Once complete this plan will serve as a road map for future projects and opportunities necessary to enhance our natural and recreational spaces.

Board of Commissioners Meeting

At their special meeting on June 18, 2020, the Antrim County Board of Commissioners voted to return to the regular meeting schedule beginning July 2, 2020. In light of Governor Whitmer's Executive Order 2020-129, which extends a previous Executive Order allowing public bodies to conduct public meetings remotely during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, meetings will be a hybrid format utilizing Zoom webinar for virtual attendance and the Board of Commissioners room for in-person attendance. 

The next meeting of the Board of Commissioners is scheduled for July 16, 2020 at 9:00. Public Comment is welcome and encouraged. Those members of the public attending through Zoom via digital device or telephone will be given time to speak one at a time, followed by those attending in person. Public comments can also be emailed to the County Administration Office (countyadmin@antrimcounty.org) before 5:00PM on July 1, 2020 to be read aloud during the Public Comment portion of the meeting.

Please note: If members of the public plan on attending the meeting in person, a health screening plan is in place. All members of the public entering the County Building will be asked a number of health screening questions and a body temperature will be taken upon entering the building. All members of the public are required to wear a face mask while in the building and are expected to maintain the recommended 6' social distance. 

 

Committee/Commission Vacancies

Antrim County is seeking letters of interest for one position on the Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Michigan Board of Directors. The term is a partial term and will expire on December 31, 2020.

The Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Michigan Board of Directors meets in Traverse City on a bi-monthly basis.

Individuals must be an Antrim County resident. Interested parties should contact the Administration Office at (231)533-6265 and request an Interest Notification Form. The form can also be downloaded from the Antrim County website (www.antrimcounty.org/commissions.asp). The completed form must be received no later than August 3, 2020 by the County Administration Office, Antrim County Building Room 204. Completed forms can also be emailed to countyadmin@antrimcounty.org or mailed to the Administration Office, PO Box 187, Bellaire, MI 49615.

Meeting Cancellations:

In line with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Interim Recommendations for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-2019) Community Mitigation Strategies, all non-essential County committee/commission meetings have been cancelled until further notice. These meetings include, but are not limited to:

  • Planning Commission
  • Economic Development Corporation
  • Antrim Creek Natural Area Commission
  • Parks & Recreation Plan ad hoc Committee
  • Commission on Aging Advisory Board
  • Housing Committee
  • Veterans Affairs Committee

Construction Code Board of Appeals

Antrim County is seeking Interest Notification Forms for one (1) builder position on the Construction Code Board of Appeals. Applicants to the board are required to be licensed and qualified by experience or training in their respective fields. 

Antrim County residents will be given preference.

Interested residents should contact the Administration Office at 231-533-6265 and request an “Interest Notification Form” or download from the Antrim County website. Forms will be accepted until the board vacancies have been filled. Forms can be returned to the Administration Office, Antrim County Building, Room 204; email: countyadmin@antrimcounty.org; or by mailing to: Antrim County Administration Office, P.O. Box 187, Bellaire, MI  49615.
